Change RGB Color on CLX Fans

Boudy H. Boudy H.

Introduction

This guide explains how to change the RGB lighting on your CLX fans using the included RGB remote or your motherboard's RGB control software.

Depending on your CLX system, the fan lighting may be controlled by a dedicated RGB hub or through the motherboard. If your system includes an RGB remote, you can use it to control the lighting without connecting the hub to the motherboard's RGB header.

If you want to control the fans using motherboard software, the ARGB cable must be properly connected between the fan hub and the motherboard.

What You Need

Depending on your CLX system, you may need:

  • The RGB remote included with your CLX system
  • Your motherboard's RGB control software
  • The ARGB cable connected between the fan hub and motherboard
  • Access to the inside of your PC if you need to check the ARGB connection

Connect the ARGB Cable

To control your fan lighting through your motherboard's RGB software, the ARGB cable must be connected to both the fan hub and the motherboard.

Before checking the connection, shut down your PC and disconnect it from power.

  1. Locate the ARGB cable connected to the fan hub.
  2. Make sure one end is securely connected to the ARGB input on the fan hub.
  3. Connect the other end to a compatible 5V 3-pin ARGB header on the motherboard.
  4. Make sure the connector is aligned correctly with the header before connecting it.
  5. Once the connection is secure, close the PC and reconnect the power.
  6. Start the PC and open your motherboard's RGB control software.

Important: Do not connect a 5V 3-pin ARGB cable to a 12V 4-pin RGB header. Using the wrong header can damage the RGB components.

Note: The location and labeling of the ARGB header may vary depending on your motherboard. Refer to your motherboard's manual if you are unsure which header to use.

Change the RGB Color Using the Remote

If your CLX system includes an RGB remote, you can use it to control the fan lighting.

  1. Turn on your PC and make sure the fan RGB hub is powered.
  2. Locate the RGB remote's receiver.
  3. Point the remote toward the receiver.
  4. Use the remote to change the RGB color, lighting effect, brightness, or lighting speed.
  5. Confirm that the fans respond to the selected setting.

Note: Available colors, effects, and controls may vary depending on the RGB hub installed in your CLX system.

Change the RGB Color Using Motherboard Software

If the ARGB cable is connected between the fan hub and a compatible motherboard header, you may be able to control the fan lighting through your motherboard's RGB software.

The software you need depends on your motherboard manufacturer.

ASRock Motherboards

ASRock uses Polychrome RGB for compatible RGB devices.

  1. Download and install the compatible ASRock RGB software.
  2. Open the RGB control software.
  3. Locate the RGB or lighting control section.
  4. Select your preferred color or lighting effect.
  5. Apply the changes and verify that the fans respond.

ASUS Motherboards

ASUS uses Armoury Crate and Aura Sync for compatible RGB devices.

  1. Download and install Armoury Crate.
  2. Open Armoury Crate and select Aura Sync or the applicable lighting settings.
  3. Select your preferred color or lighting effect.
  4. Apply the changes and verify that the fans respond.

MSI Motherboards

MSI uses Mystic Light, which is available through MSI Center.

  1. Download and install MSI Center.
  2. Open MSI Center and install the Mystic Light feature if it is not already installed.
  3. Open Mystic Light and select the detected RGB device.
  4. Choose your preferred color or lighting effect.
  5. Click Apply and verify that the fans respond.

Gigabyte Motherboards

Gigabyte uses RGB Fusion for compatible RGB devices.

  1. Download and install Gigabyte Control Center.
  2. Open the RGB Fusion section.
  3. Select the applicable RGB device or lighting zone.
  4. Choose your preferred color or lighting effect.
  5. Apply the changes and verify that the fans respond.

Note: RGB controls and available lighting effects vary depending on your motherboard, fan hub, and how the fans are connected. If the fans are not detected by the motherboard software, verify the ARGB cable connection before continuing with additional troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting RGB Issues

If your fans do not respond to the remote or motherboard software:

  • Make sure the PC and RGB hub are powered on.
  • If using the remote, replace the batteries if necessary.
  • Make sure the remote is pointed toward the RGB receiver.
  • Verify that the ARGB cable is securely connected to both the fan hub and motherboard.
  • Confirm that the ARGB cable is connected to a 5V 3-pin ARGB header and not a 12V 4-pin RGB header.
  • Make sure you are using the RGB software appropriate for your motherboard.
  • Restart the PC after making any changes to the RGB connections or software.
  • If the fans are still not detected, contact CLX Support for further assistance.

Request a Replacement Remote

If your RGB remote is missing or no longer works, contact CLX Support to request a replacement.

Please provide:

  • Your CLX system serial number
  • Your current shipping address

Providing this information when you contact us will help us process your request more quickly.

Additional Information

Not all CLX systems use the same RGB hub or fan configuration. Depending on your system, the fans may be controlled exclusively through the included remote or may support motherboard-based RGB control.

If you are unsure whether your system supports motherboard RGB control, or you are unsure where to connect the ARGB cable, contact CLX Support before making any changes inside your PC.
